A reading of Miriam Kalman Friedman's play, "Mama's Mama's Diamond" at Theatre Suburbia, 5201 Mitchelldale St., Suite A3, Houston, TX 77092-7205. Directed by Priscilla Anderson. About the play: Linda Sue, a college professor and writer, is racing to finish a book before an important deadline while juggling family and friends under one roof. When her aunt Dancie arrives wearing the family’s treasured diamond ring—an heirloom her mother, Zelda, believes should one day belong to Linda Sue—old sibling rivalries quickly resurface. Add a friend navigating a difficult divorce and an unexpected visitor, and Linda Sue finds herself surrounded by conflict she never asked for over a diamond she doesn’t even want. Filled with humor and heart, Mama’s Mama’s Diamond is a warm family comedy about sisterhood, legacy, and discovering what truly matters.

Bill Kerr, in Memoriam

In photo at left, Bill cuts a dashing figure, apparently a shot from his Hollywood days. At right is a more recent photo of Bill that his family used for his obituary. Bill provided the photo at left for his playbill bio in this year's 10x10 play festival, which will take place in August.

Bill Kerr, in Memoriam
William Henry “Bill” Kerr, 77, a longtime member of Script Writers-Houston, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026 in Houston.
He was born on Nov. 25, 1948, in Biloxi, MS. In 1967, Bill attended Trinidad Junior College in Colorado, where he earned a degree in gunsmithing. During this time, Bill met many of his cherished lifelong friends. From 1980 to 1992, Bill worked in Hollywood, where he had the opportunity to appear as an extra in films and teach acting. In 2025, his script “The Epiphany” was selected as one of the top 10 finalists for the annual Script Writers-Houston 10x10 Play Festival. In 2026, his script “One of the Chosen” was also selected as a finalist and will be performed at the Play Festival in August. With his encyclopedic knowledge of classic Hollywood movies, Bill could re-enact memorable movie scenes with animated voices and perfect timing. Bill experienced life in a way that provided endless material for his many colorful anecdotes. He will be remembered as a master storyteller who lived life entirely on his own terms.
His own bio for the 10x10 playbill tells a remarkable tale of a life well-lived:
“William Kerr is a former denizen of the Hollywood film industry. His ability in mastering such diverse skills as gunsmithing, knife-making, archery, bullwhip, tossing tomahawk & knife, steel carpentry, welding, Cajun cooking, gardening, writing and poetry led to an equally eclectic list of Hollywood credits. William has worked as an actor, crew, 2nd assistant director, theater manager, acting coach, dialogue coach, casting assistance, script supervisor, coffee getter, chauffeur and body guard. Presently, he is drawn to the increasingly volatile political scene with an eye for satire and a gallows sense of humor.”

Bill was preceded in death by his mother Minnie Marcelle (Taylor) Kerr; his aunt Mary Lee Taylor; and his uncle Samuel Wise Taylor, Jr. He is survived by cousins Elizabeth “Gigi” Taylor of Austin, Texas and Martha Ann (Taylor) Edwards of Leesburg, Florida; and aunt Elsa Taylor of Austin.

The 10x10 Play Festival is Script Writers-Houston's signature event, and the 2026 festival will take the stage in August 2026.
