www.paypal.me/ScriptwritersHoustonSeason's Greetings Everyone. We are about to ring in the Holidays with a special Christmas edition of a new, live theatrical experience; The Radio Plays.
Who are we? Scriptwriters Houston is a writer’s collective that includes playwrights & screenwriters. They have nurtured writers through staged readings, speakers, & short play festivals for over 25 years. Now we are embarking on a new venture. Live Radio Drama. What are the Radio Plays? Scriptwriters Houston is creating a new theatrical festival that spotlights the unique elements of live radio drama. This year we are starting our inaugural season with a Holiday themed theatrical festival show which will spotlight Seven- 10 minute comedic/dramatic plays & Three-10 minute musicals &/or Plays with music. There will be six comedic 30-second commercials &/ or jingles which will be performed as a monologue & /or solo piece. This show is a nostalgic look back into the world of live radio entertainment but presented in a 21st Century way. What are the requirements? 1. The Radio Plays can be a comedy/drama/Musical that must have a running time of ten minutes long or 8 to 9 pages long. 2. The type font is New Roman/Courier style & must follow Samuel French guidelines. 3. Also must follow the radio drama guidelines as seen from this link from B-Side Radio. http://bsideradio.org/learn/writing-a-radio-script/ 4. The plays must have a Holiday theme (Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year’s Eve as the background). However, the genres (Sci Fi, Parody, Comedy, Drama or Horror, period or contemporary etc.) & language is diverse (PG). Be mindful, this piece is heard over the radio. There are little to no props, no costume design & no set. In addition, your total number of actors should be no more than four actors. They can perform multiple roles. However, you must get into the mindset that you are writing for voice actors. If the piece is over ten minutes, we will disqualify it. 5. SPECIFIC TO MUSICALS: Those who want to enter a ten-minute musical, the rules ABOVE also apply to the playwrights. The musicals are meant to be heard & not seen. The ten minute musical MUST be an original piece and can be created by a team (Book writer, lyricist &/ or composer) &/or an individual. OR Written by a playwright with music that includes Public Domain Holiday Songs/ Christmas Carols ONLY please. You can find public domain songs via Public Domain website. Please be mindful that your time, text and songs should last exactly ten minutes. If your piece is over the time limit, we will disqualify your work. Who can submit? : We encourage all members and non-members of Scriptwriters Houston who live in the Houston & surrounding areas only to submit. They can submit a maximum of three plays. Musical theater/Plays with Music writers/writing teams submitting a ten minute musical MUST submit one musical only. Cost is $20 dollars for Scriptwriters/ Houston members & $40 for non-members. We strongly encourage those non-member playwrights & Musical Theater writers to pay the annual dues of $35 dollars a year so that they can experience the benefits of Scriptwriters Houston.
