This exciting event which will pit your literary musings against your fellow writers in an evening designed to be fun, artistic, and competitive.
Do you have a favorite actor in your back pocket who will sell that monologue to the next round and beyond? Bring them! Do you have a cheerleader in your corner that will root your work the loudest? Bring them too!
Date/Time: Saturday April 26, 2014 @ 7:00pm
Doors Open/Writer Check-In @ 6:30 pm
Place: 14 Pews, 800 Aurora Street 77009
RSVP: via facebook
Attendace is FREE!!! If you want to participate as a competitor, you MUST read and comply with the rules & regulations.
This year the registration fee has been WAIVED!! So consider putting that extra $10 towards purchasing one of our add ons that can either help you advance or hinder your opponents.
How it Works
At 7:00 pm, we'll start the first round with names drawn out of a hat to determine which two writers' monologues will be going head-to-head.
After each have been delivered, we'll determine who advances by audience applause. And we'll continue drawing pairs of writers until we make through all of our competitors.
Then we'll take a short break before starting the next round and continue in this fashion until we reach our fourth and final round.
It's always fun to bend the rules a little, isn't it? While your entry to the evening is free, a measly contribution to Scriptwriters/Houston can earn you:
Wild Card Bye Slot [$10]: This means you advance to the second round scot free! Only a limited number of these will be available so reserve yours fast!
Thirty Second Dramatic Pause [$5]: Is your actor an avid emoter? Think you might get whistled at the 2 minute mark? This will give you a bonus thirty seconds to get those oh-so-dramatic pauses in without reprimand.
(LIMIT one per monolouge)
Unruly Audience Card [$5]: The actor/monologue performer you choose must finish a drink (that you buy) during their monologue and still complete on time.
(LIMIT one per actor, can NOT be used during round #1)
Rules & Regulations
Membership in Scriptwriters/Houston is NOT required to participate. But if you have a good time at this event, we hope that you will consider becoming a member.
YOU MUST BE PRESENT AT THE EVENT TO PARTICIPATE!
There will be four rounds, so if you successfully move through the night you will have an opportunity to present FOUR different monologues. Please come prepared for this.
NOTE: It it possible to re-use the same monologue in a subsequent round, but you'll probably get a more responsive audience vote with new material each round!
Check-in for participating writers begins at 6:30pm and closes at 7:00pm. Please arrive in a timely fashion - we cannot guarantee inclusion if you arrive late.
Each monologue must be of your OWN CREATION. It can be new or old, published or unpublished.
Each monologue must be no more than 2 minutes long. You will be timed and mildly berated if you go over!
There is no specific topic for the monologues and the tone is up to you. Either comedy or drama is fine - just bring your BEST!
Please bring printed copies of your monologues with you as a back up plan.
Writers are responsible for lining up actors/actresses to present their monologues - actors can be on OR off book. Want to deliver the monologue yourself? No problem!
NOTE: Can't find an actor for your piece, but have stage fright? No promises, but there will likely be actors at this event who are willing to do it on the fly!
NO furniture is allowe or will be provided. One small prop is allowed provided the actor takes it on and off stage. Costumes are also allowed if desired.
