Scriptwriters/Houston hosting a new event which will pit your literary musings against your fellow writers in an evening designed to be fun, artistic, and competitive. Do you have a favorite actor in your back pocket who will sell that monologue to the next round and beyond? Bring them! Do you have a cheerleader in your corner that will root your work the loudest? Bring them too!
Event: Saturday April 13, 2012 @ 6:00 pm
Place: Fox & Hound, 11470 Westheimer 77077
RSVP: via facebook
How it Works
At 6:00 pm, we'll start the first round with names drawn out of a hat to determine order. We'll start a new round every 30 minutes. However, it's always fun to bend the rules a little, isn't it?
While your entry to the evening is free, a measly contribution to Scriptwriters/Houston can earn you:
Wild Card Bye Slot [$10]: This means you advance to the second round scot free! Only a limited number of these will be available so reserve yours fast!
Thirty Second Dramatic Pause [$5]: Is your actor an avid emoter? Think you might get whistled at the 2 minute mark? This will give you a bonus thirty seconds to get those oh-so-dramatic pauses in without reprimand. (Please only one per round – we're human.)
It's So '80s Card [$5]: Feeling overmatched? Choose from a pre-selected array of '80s power ballads of which your opponents' actor must perform a dramatic retelling in place of their monologue. (Please only use after first round)
Unruly Audience Card [$5]: The actor/monologue performer you choose must finish a drink of your choice during their monologue and still complete on time. (Please limit this penalty only after first round and only once to each actor during the tournament - they're sort of human. If actor is alcohol intolerant or already inebriated – 20 jumping jacks may suffice)
Rules & Regulations
You must be a Scriptwriters/Houston member to participate. Here's what that membership gets you:
Submission of three (3) monologues – each no longer than two (2) minutes (you will be timed and mildly berated if you go over!). Published or already produced? We don't care! However, the monologue must be of your own creation! You have automatic entry of one monologue into the first round and can alternate the others if/when you advance– it's up to you.
Tone is up to you – comedic or dramatic. Just bring your best.
Actor can be on book or off – again whatever works best for your piece. Please, bring printed copies as a back up plan.
No external furniture. Table and chair allowed if needed. Reasonable hand props (Smaller than a bread box) or small costume pieces allowed.
To register: Email your monologues in MS Word format to us at tournament@scriptwriters-houston.org and confirm your attendance by Saturday April 6, 2012. You must attend to be able to compete!
